New Yorking!!!

After Maui we stop 4 days in New York, the city that never sleeps, the city it always appears in the coolest movies, the city I've always wanted to visit since I was a kid!!

I just have one word to describe it: AWESOME!!

Arrival at NYC

We were very lucky to have sunny days, as It was snowing a few days before getting there, and rain was coming over again today. It was, though, very cold! Temperatures below 0ºC so quite a chock as we were coming from warm Hawaii.

I think I didn't explain how hard was when we first go to NY coming from Newark Airport to get into the subway with almost 100kg of kiteboaring gear at 8am RUSH HOUR!!...hahah, it was a completely nightmare..

It was an exhausting non-stop-visiting 4 days. 

Day 1: after more than 24hours without sleeping, check in in a super nice cheap hotel just in front of Central Park and 2 blocks from the subway (130$, double room, 3 nights). A promenade in Central Park, an extensive visit in the MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art) my favorite; and a long walk down the 5th Avenue.

Day 2: Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, visit to Wall Street and the World Trade Center area, incredible Times Square at night (my favorite of all city) and just got tickets for the musical "Mama Mia" in Broadway!

Day 3: Breakfast at "Magnolia Bakery" The place is so tinny that it is even difficult to step inside. It is obviously crowded of fans of "Sex in the City" because to be fair it was pretty good, but not mind blowing at all. Not a place i am coming back.

Also I got into Marc Jacobs store, my sister-in-low, a very fashion stylist, talked me about the firm so I just gave it a try.

After Bleecker street we move into the SOHO but no time or better "no money" for shopping ;) It really surprised me how friendly American people are. Really always with a smile in the face and talking to you as if you know each other. BTW, did you know that SOHO is the acronym for "South Houston" street?? A guy that was working in one of the Soho's stores just explain me that ;) So there is also the NOHO (North Houston st.).

After that we went to the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). And in the evening it was time to visit the Empire State Building. It was the highest building in NY for almost 40 years and it took only 14 months to build it! I wanted to see the sunset and also NY city at night, but it was so cold that as soon as the san set we left.

Day 4: not a lot of time left as the plane departure was at 4 pm, so left at noon from the hotel. We just had time for one more museum: the Museum of Natural History.

So now I'm just at home, trying to get over the jet-lag asap, enjoying the companion of family and friends, before I start the world tour competitions again in a few days.

Después de Maui paramos 4 días en la alucinante ciudad de Nueva York. Fue un chock de cambio de temperaturas, ya que estuvimos casi todos los días con temperaturas por debajo de los 0ºC y no íbamos muy adecuados de ropa. Por suerte tuvimos sol cada día. 

Creo que no os conté la aventura del primer día, al llegar del aeropuerto a la estación de metro central y en hora punta...jejej, creo que ha sido la peor pesadilla!! arrastrando casi 100kg de material de kite, y las puertas del metro cerrándose con mi maleta medio dentro medio fuera, jeje

Han sido 4 días non-stop, realmente agotador.

Día 1: más de 24h sin dormir, lo primero q hicimos fue hacer el check-in en el hotel y dejar las maletas. Por cierto, espectacular la calidad-precio del hotel. Nos costó 100€, 3 noches en una habitación doble con vistas a Central Park y a dos calles del metro. Primero paseamos por Central Park, luego una larga visita al MET (Museo Metropolitan de Arte) y por último un paseo por la famosa 5ª Avenida.

 Día 2: empezamos el día con una visita a la Estatua de la Libertad y la zona Zero, donde estaban antes las torres gemelas. Después visitamos la zona de Wall Street y ya por la noche compramos entradas para el musical en Broadway "Mama Mia" y nos paseamos por el impresionante Times Square (para mi lo mejor de la ciudad).

Día 3: desayuno en la famosa pastelería "Magnolia" famosa por la serie de TV "Sexo en Nueva York". Lugar super pequeño, y lo que venden está bueno pero tampoco para tirar cohetes. En frente estaba la tienda de Marc Jacobs, diseñador que me había recomendado mi cuñada, la que es estilista, así que entré a echarle un vistazo.

Después nos desplazamos hasta el SOHO, que un dependiente muy amable me contó que Soho es el acrónimo de el Sur de la calle Houston. También existe en NOHO que es Norte de la calle Houston. No teníamos mucho tiempo ni dinero para ir de compras, así que cambiamos y fuimos a visitar el MOMA (Museo de Arte Moderno). 

Ya al atardecer subimos al Empire States building para ver la puesta de sol y Nueva York de noche.

Día 4: Nuestro avión salía a las 4 de la tarde, por lo que teníamos que dejar el hotel a las 12 del mediodía. Aún así, nos dio tiempo de visitar un último museo, el Museo de Historia Natural. 

Ahora ya estoy en casa, intentándome sobreponer del cambio de horario, y disfrutando de la compañía de la familia y amigos antes de que la temporada de competiciones empiece de nuevo en muy pocos días.
